Big changes are coming for SBI credit card users starting July 15, 2025, and they could impact how much you pay — and what benefits you lose.
SBI Card has issued a notification detailing significant revisions, including a new method for calculating the Minimum Amount Due (MAD) and discontinuation of complimentary air accident insurance coverage on several co-branded cards. If you hold SBI ELITE, PRIME, Pulse, or IRCTC cards, it’s time to reassess your usage.
🔄 Revised Minimum Amount Due (MAD) Calculation
From July 15, the MAD will be calculated as:
- 100% of GST
- 100% of EMI
- 100% of fees/charges
- 100% of finance charges
- 100% of overlimit amount
- + 2% of the remaining balance
This tighter structure means you can no longer escape penalties by paying a small portion of your dues — falling short may quickly lead to rising interest.
💳 Updated Payment Settlement Order
SBI is also changing how your payments are applied. Here’s the new order of settlement:
- GST
- EMI
- Charges (fees, interest)
- Finance charges
- Balance transfer
- Retail purchases
- Cash advance
If you don’t clear previous charges, your new payments will first be adjusted against them — interest will continue to accrue on your actual spends.
🛑 Air Accident Insurance Cover Ends
From August 11, 2025, complimentary air accident insurance coverage worth ₹50 lakh to ₹1 crore will be discontinued on multiple SBI credit cards, including:
₹1 crore cover ends for:
- UCO Bank SBI ELITE
- Central Bank of India SBI ELITE
- PSB SBI ELITE
- KVB SBI ELITE
- KVB SBI Signature
- Allahabad Bank SBI ELITE
₹50 lakh cover ends for:
- SBI PRIME cards from UCO Bank, PSB, KVB, Karnataka Bank, South Indian Bank, etc.
- SBI Platinum cards issued by OBC, Federal Bank, BOM, City Union Bank, and more.
📉 More Reductions in Benefits Earlier This Year
SBI has already trimmed perks in recent months:
- March 28, 2025: Yatra SBI Card discontinued
- April 1, 2025: Club Vistara cards lost free ticket perks, but annual fees waived
- March 11, 2025: Etihad Guest SBI cards fully discontinued
✅ What Should Cardholders Do?
If you use any of the affected SBI credit cards, it’s a good time to:
- Review your card’s updated benefits and costs
- Evaluate whether it’s still meeting your financial and lifestyle needs
- Consider upgrading or closing the card if the changes reduce its value
